Click "Start" on your desktop.

Click "Run" and then type "Msconfig." Click "OK."

Choose the "Startup" tab when the "System Configuration Utility" window appears. A list will appear with all of the programs that start up when you start Windows.

Uncheck the box next to the program that you don't want to start when Windows starts.

Tips & Warnings

·         You can stop chat and instant message programs from loading at start up by changing your "Preferences" in your settings menu in the chat program. If you have a program you do not use anymore that is still giving you a problem, your best bet is to remove the entire program through "Add and Remove Programs."
·         Removing programs from the Startup list will not remove the programs from the computer.
