How to Start Up a Computer for the First Time

Buying a new computer is an exciting time because the computer is fresh and free of any viruses, cookies or documents. When you start up a computer for the first time, it takes a while before the computer fully boots. This is sometimes worrisome, but it is a normal process for the first start up to take extra time.

Read the instructions that come with the computer. Learn about the computer and which parts are in what locations. Every computer is different and will have different warnings and directions. For example, the on button on each laptop has different locations and can be in the middle or off to one side. The booklet with the computer will give all of the important information about the computer.

Press the on button. On a laptop, this is usually on the top either to one side or in the middle. On a desktop, the start button is usually in the middle of the front of the computer. It is the large and long button on most computers.
